September 2010 Update It is hard to believe September is almost here and summer begins to wind-down for 2010. Our summer in Northern California seen unusually low temperatures and strange weather patterns. Temperatures in the lower 100's for days and even weeks at a time have been nearly nonexistent. This is welcomed weather as the reduced use of air conditioning will allow for lower utilities bills. Additionally the cooler summer is more comfortable for those of us in diaper 24/7 as skin problems personally have been kept to an absolute minimum. I finally was able to get my truck washed this past Saturday only to have a little rain shower pass through town the same night. Never thought about asking for a rain check from the car wash as rain in August is unusual. For me August was a very busy month work-wise as I spent the first three weeks working out-of-town. Being away from home for the week only allowed me to answer emails and I was unable to give 100% to the business. I am still playing catch-up as numerous paperwork must still be completed and new products which arrived last week need to be inventoried and added to our store. Still have new Lang pants which must be dyed and added to our store. Hopefully I can complete this task today and get additional blue, pink and yellow Lang pants back in stock.
The Lang vinyl pants continue to be a popular product as many of us have found them to be very comfortable and secure against leaks. I continue to get emails asking about the stiffness of the vinyl compared to the original pants manufactured by Edley Enterprises. A chemical used in the original formula has since been removed as it is listed as a poison and no longer allowed to be imported into the US from China. Gary Mfg. does not have this problem as their vinyl is imported from Asia where the laws are more relaxed.
The maker of today's Lang pants is looking into developing new materials with her US manufacturer. These things take time and hopefully sometime in the near future a more softer vinyl material will be developed. I am getting requests for Lang print pants and I have passed my support for this product onto Edley/Lang. I was able to purchase some printed vinyl sheeting several months ago and still awaiting the arrival of the finished product.
Numerous emails also received have asked about the availability of the Lang adult trainers. Size medium is nearly sold-out and x- large very limited in color and print. I have not been able to obtain sizes large and xx-large from the manufacturer as they are always out-of-stock. An order was placed with Edley/Lang in early July and I am still awaiting the arrival of these products along with new Velcro cloth diapers in sizes x-large and xx-large. Some of Edley/Lang products are manufactured off-site by one of Peggy Lu's most experienced seamstresses and take a little extra time to sew based upon the complexity of the garment. I hope to have some better news soon and have the products in stock shortly.
At this time the Bumkins products are very limited. Only nine small, two medium and nine xxxl pants, and seven bibs, remain in stock. These were great selling products and will be missed by many. We just hit our stride and were in the process developing new patterns for several of the pull-on pants and adding the new Velcro diaper covers. It is still a shock to see these great products come to an early end as Bumkins was very happy with the success of their adult products. Unfortunately another US manufacturer of cloth diapering products felt it was necessary to move production to China in order to stay competitive. The minimum required for purchase from their new manufacturer in China is still beyond my reach at this time and I hope to find a replacement product which will prove just a popular.
The Gary vinyl pants are a welcomed addition to CTDC as many find them a great product. We now offer the 4 mil, 7 mil, and softwear vinyl pants with both the 1" rolled elastic and encased 3/4" elastic (comfort pants) as well as the new honey bear print pant. Sales have been well beyond my expectations and I believe the success is our prices compared to other suppliers. The only supplier which comes close to our prices is Adult Cloth Diaper (ACD). They however have a much larger selection at this time as the Gary pants are our newest item and it takes time to build an ample stock level.
I have received several emails asking about the Leakmaster pants I offer. Just to clarify, Leakmaster is a name ACD started as their way of selling the Gary vinyl pants. I have noticed a supplier in Australia also sells them as Leakmaster pants. For me personally, I will continue to list them as the Gary vinyl pants to avoid any trouble with ACD and their term - Leakmaster.
Just this afternoon I received some new potential prints from Gary Mfg. They are asking for customers assistance to determine which new prints could be offered. The potential prints can be viewed by cutting and pasting the following link: http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryManufacturing/PotentialInconPatterns?authkey=Gv1sRgCMjC_LLDg6j8bA# .
Click on the "Sideshow" link to enlarge the first pattern and then use the forward symbol to scroll through the potential prints. Please make a note of each print as the survey will ask for one of the three following ratings: Super Cute, I love it!; It's OK; or; Yuck, I hate it. Next cut and paste the following web address to complete a survey as to your selections: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DSXKVMR .
Completing this survey will allow Gary Mfg. to make the best possible selection about their potential new prints. Please enter Changing Times Diaper Company in the box asking "Where did you hear about this survey?"
Our diaper twill pre-folds continue to impress people with their comfort, absorbency and price. A new order of sizes small and x-large have just arrived and looks like size medium will be the next to re-order. This is a hard product to keep in stock as many find them a great alternative to flannel and birdseye materials. Some still prefer the gauze diapers available from a few on-line sources but I believe they would find the two materials very similar in comfort and absorbency if given the opportunity. Some customers order one or two while others are in the position to replace their current supply with anywhere from two to three dozen of our pre-folds at a time. I am one and slowly replacing my cloth supply with the new diaper twill pre-folds as older styles wear-out.
I began Changing Times Diaper Company a little over two and a half years ago and amazed at our success today. First by being the worldwide supplier of the Bumkins adult products and now as a leader of quality products at low prices. I know from years of searching for the right products at affordable prices that we could do better. Our low overhead allows us to be very competitive and still offer a 10% discount for multiple purchases (four or more). I am very happy with our business growth and hope to be around for years to come.
As always, my sincere appreciation to all the customers out there for their continued support as there would be no CTDC without you. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about our products or services. I am a hard person to reach by phone as my job currently has me working odd hours. Emails are much easier to answer and sometimes much quicker as this can be done in the middle of the night after arriving home from work.
Thank You,
